Plant Eating Dinosaurs

Homepage > Plant Eating Dinosaurs

Plant eating dinosaurs are also know as "Herbivores". Herbivore dinosaurs are primary consumers, that means that these dinosaurs consumed plants as their primary food source. Paleontologists estimate that two thirds of dinosaurs were herbivores. Herbivores came in all sizes as well. Dinosaurs that you may recognize are Brachiosaurus, Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus, and Triceratops among others.

Some herbivores had to develop defense systems against the larger carnivores (meat-eating) dinosaurs. Some dinosaurs developed horns, spikes on their tails, and clubs at the end of their tails that were made of bone. All of these adaptations helped these dinosaurs defend themselves. Other herbivores were so large in size, that this by itself helped them defend against predators.
