190 Million Year Old Discovery in Argentina

January 10, 2009. Researchers in Buenos Aires, Argentina reported the new discovery of a species of dinosaur that lived 190 million years ago. The fossil was discovered on Bayo mountain, about 50 miles from the Patagonian town of Gastre.

The find is about two dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic Period. This dinosaurs are sauropods. Large herbivores with small head, long necks, pillar like legs and a muscular tail. The dinosaurs measure between 50-66 feet (15-20 meters) in length.

The skeletons are not complete finds, but bones from the front and back legs, along with the hips and spine were retrieved. Argentine Patagonia is a great contributor of prehistoric specimens. Some of the first dinosaurs and some of the largest have been discovered here.
