Chungkingosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic Period about 145 million years ago in what is now China. Fossil remains have been found in the Upper Shaximiao Formation, in China. This dinosaur was described by Dong Zhiming, Zhou Shiwu, and Chang Yihong in 1983. Chungkingosaurus was one of the smallest of the stegosauridae family, it measured about 12 feet (4 meters) in length. Its skull was narrow, it had thick bony plates on its back, Chungkingosaurus also had two pairs of tail spikes which were used possibly for self-defense.
