Milleretta

Milleretta lived during the Permian Period 250 million years ago in South Africa. Milleretta was about 2 feet (60 centimeters) long. It was a small, fast moving reptile that may have hunted insects. Milleretta is presumed to have the ability to hear. This is supported by a concave area on the back of its skull which seams to suggest that Milleretta had ear drums.

Milleretta belongs to the anapsid group of reptiles, whose skulls are more like those of turtles, not lizards and snakes. Even though Milleretta was one of the first reptiles, it was not directly related to the dinosaurs.
