XENOTARSOSAURUS
(pronounced zeen-oh-TAR-soh-SAWR-us) Xenotarsosaurus (meaning "strange-ankle
lizard") was a medium-sized theropod from the late Cretaceous period,
perhaps 83 to 73 million years ago. It was a bipedal meat-eater. Xenotarsosaurus
is known from only a few fossilized vertebrae and hind-leg bones found
in Argentina, South America. Not much is known about this dinosaur. Xenotarsosaurus
was named by paleontologists Martinez, Giminez, Rodriguez, and Bochatey
in 1986. The type species is X. bonapartei.
XIAOSAURUS
(pronounced sheow-SAWR-us) Xiaosaurus was a small, bipedal, herbivore
dinosaur from the mid-Jurassic period. This ornithischian dinosaur was
about 3 feet (i m) long. An incomplete fossil was found in what is now
China. The type species is X. dashanpensis. Xiaosaurus was named by Dong
and Tang in 1983.
XUANHANOSAURUS
(pronounced SHWAN-HAHN-oh-SAWR-us) Xuanhanosaurus (meaning "Xuanhan
[County] lizard") was a bipedal, meat-eating dinosaur from the middle
Jurassic period. This dinosaur had a stiff tail; it was about 20 feet
(6 m) long and weighed about 550 pounds (250 kg). An incomplete fossil
of this tetanuran theropod dinosaur was found in what is now China. The
type species is X. qilixiaensis. Xuanhanosaurus was named by Dong in 1984.
XUANHUASAURUS
(pronounced SHWAN-HUAH-SAWR-us) Xuanhuasaurus was a beaked, bipedal, herbivore
dinosaur from the early Cretaceous period. An incomplete fossil of this
ornithischian dinosaur was found in what is now China. The type species
is X. niei. Xuanhuasaurus was named by Zhao in 1986.
